Incontinence in the Elderly Muslim Women

I have chosen to address an issue sparked by a recent conversation with a fellow sister from Assunta. We delved into the topic of 'istihadhah', a condition where menstruation is either delayed, accompanied by spotting, or prolonged for more than 15 days. Though this condition may not afflict elderly women, it's crucial to recognize that this Islamic law applies to women dealing with incontinence. For those experiencing mild incontinence, wherein bladder control is compromised or leaks and discharges occur, it's essential to handle such situations with care. When performing 'wudhu', it's advisable to immediately use pads designed for incontinence. This ensures readiness for prayers, albeit valid only for one obligatory prayer. For subsequent obligatory prayers, it's necessary to renew the pad and perform 'wudhu' again. Refer to the following link, https://www.muftiwp.gov.my/en/artikel/irsyad-fatwa/irsyad-fatwa-umum-cat/1841-irsyad-al-fatwa-ke-148-wudhu-bagi-mereka-yang-kencing-tidak-lawas-salisi-al-baul-dan-hukum-berimamkan-mereka Several recommendations for incontinence pads include Poise liners and pads, Tena liners and pull-ups, and, for extreme cases, diapers. Additionally, Kotex overnight panties also provide protection and comfort. May this Ramadan be a time of spiritual growth and reflection for us all, as we engage in fasting, nightly prayers, and acts of worship. Ramadan Mubarak. ❤️
Salam all. After a hiatus, I'm back, alhamdulillah. It took a while, but the moment is here. With a few more years and academic qualifications under my belt, I envision this blog evolving into something richer and more up-to-date than my initial posts. May this fresh start bring you valuable insights and blessings, inshaAllah. Will post soon, inshaAllah. Till then, wslm.

A tribute for my late father on Father's Day.

This post is a tribute to my late father, who passed away in Oct 1984.

My father ( رحمة الله عليه ) died of heart failure. I will never forget that particular day he passed away. It was on a Sunday, just after the maghrib prayers and he was sitting having dinner with my mother and my husband. It was really an unusual evening because the kids were crying endlessly and were so cranky that immediately after cooking dinner, I had to give the maid a hand to keep the kids calm.  I was then married with 2 kids and heavily pregnant with my third. It happened so fast but during the meal, my father collapsed and as I dashed in after hearing my mother screaming for me, he breathed his last. A silent shahadah ended his life in my mothers arms and we were all by then ... on the floor around this still and lifeless body. It's been so long ago but this particular incident will forever be etched in my mind. Everyday I pray that Allah swt forgive all his sins, showers him with His Endless Mercy and place him in the highest heavens amongst the Companions and Prophets. Amin.
Today, is special. It has been 29  years since my father left us and I have definitely changed. I have grown, matured and definitely increased in numbers.
My father was one of  the most kindest. His tall stature and gentle giant demeanor was but a figure to be reckoned with. His opinion matters whatever the reasons. I remember vividly when I first put on my hijab and that proved a problem especially for my mother. I don't really blame her for her reactions because at that time and era, covering the aurat was for the elderly and she was really worried I would not be able to socialise and will end up a spinster. But Allah Taala knew best. My mother could not bring herself to talk to me and snubbed me for days until my father called me to sit with him to discuss the problem. That was my father. If you have a problem you would have to sit with him, face to face to discuss whatever the problems or issues.

My father had an astonishing influence over me in ways that I myself could not have visioned. My time with him felt so brief as I was only 25 when he passed away. I felt as though I hardly knew him unlike my other siblings who had spent more time with him. And with a large family it was difficult to get his attention. He was such a busy man. Being in the Police Force and holding a high position made him spend less time at home and with the family. I may not have really known him, but the little I do, I love him dearly and will always want to make him proud.
I live my life always still trying to seek his approval. In anything that I do, I always ask myself if he was still living.... would he approve? Will he be happy to see what I have become and accomplished with my family? It makes me want to try harder and live the best I can. And I figured, that is the best I can do for him. Be the daughter he can be proud of . In this world and the next. With Allah's blessings and grace, this will help him to achieve that highest level of heavens, Jannatul Firdaus. Amin.

With this tribute, I include also some hadith to reflect upon. Deeds to help our fathers in this world and the next. ~

Narrated Abu Hurairah ( رضى الله عنه) :
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "Verily, Allah raises the grades of His righteous slaves in Paradise." So, he asks Allah, "How did I attain this (high position)?" Allah says, "Because of the supplication of your child for your forgiveness." (Ahmad)

Abu Hurayra ( رضى الله عنه) said,
"The dead person can be raised a degree after his death. He said, 'My Lord, how is this?' He was told, 'Your child can ask for forgiveness for you.'" [Adab Al – Mufrad – Imam Bukhari]

My daily prayer for, my dear Daddy....

Abu Hurairah ( رضى الله عنه ) reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "When a person dies, all action is cut off for him with the exception of three things : sadaqa which continues, knowledge which benefits, or a righteous child who makes supplication for him."

... and here's a story to break your heart.

Happy Father's Day ...  to all fathers.
And may Allah subhnallahu taala forgive my father his sins and with His Mercy, bless him with Jannatul Firdaus.
Ameen.

Finding a marriage partner

This du'a / supplication is for those seeking a marriage partner. Also to conceive a child. ( ... its like this, to be married legally to have a child.)

Menopause

Red hot pokers sea symbolic hot flush

1. Hot flushes are...
  1. ...a big mystery that nobody really understands.
  2. ...emblematic of the woman at menopause.
  3. ...are experienced as a sudden wave of extreme heat that sweeps through the body, sometimes causing profuse sweating.
  4. Medics refer to flushes and night sweats as vasomotor symptoms orvasomotor dysfunction.
  5. flames symbolic hot flash

    Hot flushes...
  6. ...are experienced differently by different women.
  7. ...can be brought on by situations especially stress, emotions, foods, drinks and psychological "events".
  8. ...were previously thought to be worse in thin women but are now known to be worse if you are overweight.
  9. ... are of varying severity, intensity, frequency and duration in the same woman and between women. They usually subside gradually after the menopause but may last for months or years and in a few women, forever.
  10. ...at night cause night sweats. These can be disturbing enough to cause debilitating sleep loss.
  11. ...do not just occur in menopausal women. They can occur whenever there is a rapid drop in oestrogen – after surgical removal of the ovaries, following childbirth and in some premenopausal women just before menstruation.

For me, menopause with the hot flushes is the beginning of another phase of my life...The time has finally arrived .... Ready or not. Hot flushes is the first symptom and soon others might just creep in. Aching backs, hormonal headaches, painful knee joints and the list goes on. To help get on with life, I shall be adding some du'a and dzikir to ease the pain. For a start...Here's the du'a for those hot flushes.

"Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham."
Surah Anbiyaa' : 69
2. Aching backs

For aching back, read this du'a while hitting or massaging the back.

And when you strike, you strike as tyrants.

Surat Ash-Shu`arā':130

3. Headaches

to be continued ....

Du'a seeking forgiveness

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Messenger (peace be upon him) said:
Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, said: I am as My servant expects Me and I am with him as he remembers Me. By Allah, Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than how one of you would be on finding the lost camel in the waterless desert. When he draws near Me by the span of his hand, I draw near him by the length of a cubit. And when he draws near Me by the length of a cubit, I draw near him by the length of a fathom. And when he draws near Me walking, I draw close to him quickly.
[Sahih Muslim, Book 037, Number 6610]

Narrated Abdullah bin Amr: Abu Bakr As-Siddiq said to the Prophet “O Allah’s Messenger! Teach me a supplication with which I may call upon Allah in my prayers.” The Prophet said,
“Say: O Allah! I have wronged myself with a great oppression, and none forgives sins but You; so please forgive me. No doubt, You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.”
